Ms. Maritza Soto, 8th Gr. Assistant Principal

Dear Eighth Grade Families and Students,  

I would like to welcome you back to Irwin Altman Middle school for the 2023-24 academic school year. As many of you already know, I have been the Assistant Principal for this cohort of students since they entered Middle School 172 as sixth graders, and very excited to be with them during their senior year. For those of you who are new to our school community, this is my ninth year as an Assistant Principal at Middle School 172 in District 26. I am also a mother of two daughters. My oldest is starting her junior year in college and my youngest is starting eighth grade.   

Eighth grade students will have many senior activities during their final year at Middle School 172 and will be expected to be positive role models for the 6^th and 7^th graders in our building as the Class of 2024. I, alongside the 8^th grade team and support staff will continue to support all students’ academic and social-emotional needs as well as work with our eighth-grade families to ensure every individual child flourishes to their highest potential as part of our “It takes a village to raise a child” belief.
