7th Grade

Mr. Myles Nash, 7th Gr. Assistant Principal

Dear Seventh Grade Families and Students,

I would like to welcome you back to Irwin Altman Middle school for the 2023-24 academic school year. This will be my ninth year as an Assistant Principal at Middle School 172 in District 26.  As many of you already know, this will be my second year as Assistant Principal for this 2025 cohort of students and I’m very excited to be able to support them as they start the most crucial 7th grade year. For those of you who may not have heard me say it before, this is the grade and year that will be judged from the first day of September to the last day of June as the measure of what your academic strengths and extra-curricular interests are for the rest of your academic career - the only full year of middle school that high schools can look at to measure the potential of the scholar.  So, focus on doing your best and improving every day.

Seventh grade students will enter each morning through ‘Exit 3’ (the door nearest the Park) and will follow their class schedules for a full range of academic classes (including Spanish) showing effective habits of learning and should consider demonstrating an ability to be committed to a balanced school culture through the after-school activities & clubs of Middle School 172.  I, alongside the 7th grade team and support staff, will work hard to communicate in support of all students’ academic & social-emotional needs as well as work with our seventh-grade families to ensure every individual child flourishes, empowered to “overcome the challenges of an ever-changing world”.

Let’s make this a positive and productive school year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Nash
